serious topic corner, for the non nutters!

Just thought I would start a "serious topic corner" so that the nutters can get on with their ridiculous and childish humour, without having to revert to serious matters, and likewise in this "serious topi corner" the participants should only post  "serious topics" that warant "serious disussion"
The use of all them stupid smileys on top of the posting box is expressly forbidden, and the faces of the poster`s appearing on the left side of the post must be suitably "serious".
If any other "serious" persons can think of any suitably "serious" rules for this "serious topic corner" please post them here for all to read
Thank you.  (may good manners also prevail)

I don`t remember the site address, but I do know there is a software program that will do the same thing, provided you have a Short Wave Radio and a good aerial.  The system you  are referring to is called ACARS..... I am also aware that there are sites that you can use "remote" radios via your own computer, for example, you could listen on an Australian radio for the local air traffic control above australia, and the far east.

Do you think it is necessary for spelling and grammar to be checked in these serious entries?
Could we make that a rule please?

You might find this site interesting http://www.liveatc.net/
These are live ATC feeds from various airports (mostly US). You can select various options tower, approach etc.
The is also a forum for discussions which has an area for audio clips of the best bits! You have to register to hear the audio but it's worth it. Some of the banter is amazing. My recommendation would be to look for Boston John, he is involved in some really cool stuff. When he finishes he says "Asta La Vista" and now the pilots reply the same!
Edit: This is a tracking site http://flightaware.com/

Thanks for that...Sounds like it might be fun. I find it always a pleasure to listen to "different" stations, and enjoy the differences in operating "techniques"

PAYG using RIN
copied this from the nutters forum about weather

On a slightly different tack I used to have a link to a site with live positioning of aircraft, probably on the west coast of the USA which I found, unapologetically interesting.

I which case I think I am about to waste your entire afternoon!
Have a look at Webtrak for UK airports: http://www.lochard.com/

Quite interesting, can see the incoming and outgoing flight tracks  delayed by 24 hours for security reasons..... pity there is no ATC sound track tho,  would have more appeal.

Re: serious topic corner, for the non nutters!

just had a mental block and hit the wrong key, but a free scanner program is WACARS it draws live maps and gives the frequencies you want http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=9719
also i have just purchased
AR-108 Airband Scanner
Manufacturer: Maycom
• Airband and 2m amateur band scanning, 108MHz-180MHz
• 99 memory channels
• Selective channel steps
• Dual channel watch
• Key lock
• Battery voltage indicator with 4 grade steps and low battery warning
• Beep tone on/off
• Power saving
• Requires 2 x AA batteries
The AR108 is a palm sized scanner covering 108 to 180 MHz. It gives the best possible receive sensitivity in the civil airband. The radio covers 108 - 180MHz with the VFO covering this frequency in two bands. 108 - 136.975MHz for the Civil Airband and 136 - 180MHz for the rest of the VHF band. The frequency is changed by use of the up/down buttons on the selected digit. It holds a 99 memory bank for each of these bands which are set independently. There are also facilities to lock in frequencies in the memories to pass on.

i was lucky got it in maplins sale 39.99, now 69.99 pt no n04aa
bye bye going back to the sensible forums

Could we have a spell check attached to all sections of the  forum.
I  for one, would find this of considerable help.
