rubbish warships

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35435622
i begin to think that this incompetence is deliberate.  the manufacturers make a perfectly good boat, but put substandard engines in it.  now they'll make even more money fixing a problem that shouldn't have happened.  have they never heard of bench testing prior to fitting?
note also "navy of 19 ships"  how amusing is that.

Re: rubbish warships

At least we have more ships than the Austrian Navy.

Re: rubbish warships

The article i read said it was destroyers that are affected. Stupid things only have silly little guns anyway so what is the point? Bring back the big battleships with big guns and then we'll have something proper to defend ourselves with.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: rubbish warships

Not sure if warships need big guns these days with all the technology available they have the ability to destroy the enemy long before it can be seen with the naked eye.
As to the problem with the ships engines, not to worry, as we as taxpayers will no doubt foot the bill.

Re: rubbish warships

It thought those destroyers were mainly armed with surface to air missiles, some of them might get the anti-ship missile systems removed from decommissioned older ships.

The era of the big battleships is long over - they were made obsolete during WWII .
Missiles for most attack and defence - with 4.5 gun for coastal attack, defence etc.
Or maybe you want HMS Lion and Belfast back to go with your old Vulcans !

Re: rubbish warships

The next major war will probably be using nukes, so floating tubs, with or without good engines, would be as much use as throwing a banana at someone... Grin

They'll act as a defensive screen for our aircraft carrier fleet.  You know, those new bigun's which don't have an air craft available.

Re: rubbish warships

It'd be nice to have something to greet the passing Russian warships with, bigger than a river patrol boat.

Yes, probably nuclear. however, probably small tactical ones with low radiation output but high EMP. This would knock out any guidance systems, phone systems etc. making it a walk in. We would be particularly vulnerable as we have so few ground troops, and the airborn and navy would be helpless. The days of the big war are over now - thank goodness.

Re: rubbish warships

Any future wars are likely to be long drawn out affairs.
E.g. Afghanistan.
Having nuclear weapons didn't help when we were dragged into that squabble over the Malvinas.
We could have decimated the sheep with a single missile!

You mean the Falkland Isles, of course (one of the soldiers aboard the Sir Galahad happens to be a family friend, so, it's the Falklands)... Roll eyes
But anyway, that conflict could have been solved with a nuke on argentina, give them a real reason to hate us brits, rather than getting their knickers in a twist over H982 FKL... Grin
