An interesting snippet from the November 2017 Fibre systems Magazine.  Of course this is still predicated on BT Openreach retaining their dominance in the supply market, but is this about to change?  Part of the BT plan is to rapidly decommission their copper network infrastructure - watch Vodaphone in this market

BT has announced a £20 million investment to accelerate the expansion of its ultrafast broadband network to towns across Northern Ireland, reaching a further 140,000 premises.
