I'll be keeping an eye on the rowing and of course Wiggo in today's time trial.

Re: olympics,, has someone eaten the tkts!!

Had a brilliant day yesterday at the Olympic Table Tennis ladies Q/F
Brilliant standard of play, great organisation and transport; Only gripe was we fancied staying for the semi's and although tickets (returns) were available you could only get them through the website or over the phone......neither of which worked so there we were, money in hand and 100 metres from the arena with seats available and we couldn’t get in!
It didn’t stop us having a great day at the Olympics

Why so many empty seats at the Robson/Murray mixed doubles match?

Re: olympics,, has someone eaten the tkts!!

Doubles, especially mixed doubles, unfortunately do not attract large audiences. The same applies at Wimbledon.  I was there last month and the court was well filled for a singles.  It emptied a bit for a mens doubles and became really empty for a mixed doubles.

Re: olympics,, has someone eaten the tkts!!

At Wimbledon it's because most of the double matches are put on after the main matches on the show courts. When you look at the minority sports like Waterwater kayaking they have more people in the stands supporting British competitors then on Centre court supporting Robson/Murray. Why?

Re: olympics,, has someone eaten the tkts!!

Most of the doubles are played on the outside courts at Wimbledon. It is only towards the end of the tournament that they follow the pattern you refer to. Even then the spectators do not stay to watch.  It is just a fact of life that doubles are not as popular as singles.
We should have 2 very good matches tomorrow for the mens' medals.

Re: olympics,, has someone eaten the tkts!!

Sorry artmo you can't defend empty seats.
1. The match started at 12:00.
2. British players.
3. Robson, Murray, Hewitt and Stosur are all household names in the UK.
Who are the tickets holders for these empty seats obviously not British or Tennis supporters.

and there are double matches that are played to capacity crowds, This year when Marray played and a few years ago when Murray's brother played in the mixed doubles.

You seem to be contradicting yourself.  Doubles matches do not attract the crowds that singles do. Your info above seems to prove it.

London Olympics, British players, empty seats. Shouldn't happen.
