jpg to png

I wish to change some clip art images from .jpg  to .png for use in a website so that I can change backgrounds colours to transparent.
Help please?

Re: jpg to png

Or for batch processing I recommend Irfanview.

Re: jpg to png

+1 for Irfanview... ( free )...
File > Edit > Batchconversion> drop down window shows "output version"  here you choose PNG .... then specify the output folder/destination

Re: jpg to png

Thanks gents.
I only have a couple of images to do so batch is probably unnecessary at this time.
Have saved the required images in Picture folder as .png (from Paint). Now just need to replace (copy/paste) the current .jpg images with the .pgn. Is there anything else to do once pasted or will they be "transparent" background?
The images don't look wrong background in the page builder until the page is published. The difference is slight (image background white, web page off-white, I do have the web page RGB and # format if required) but is noticeable.

Re: jpg to png

Saving the files as PNG's wont do anything beyond convert the format.
To get a transparent background you'll need to use an image editor which supports transparency properly (which paint does not).
If you use The GIMP,  the docs have details on how to Save Images with Transparency, there's also tutorial videos on Youtube e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRUARd3WML8
Edit: fixed link...

Re: jpg to png

Paint.net also allows you to convert background to transparent.
You just fill the background with "transparent paint".

Re: jpg to png

@kmilburn, the tutorial link is apparently invalid.

Re: jpg to png

It works if you copy & paste into your browser, but here's the direct link:-
