[in the news] - Pub's savings club stolen

Hi All
Just seen this:
Quote
'It's destroyed everybody's Christmas': More than £10,600 stolen from Stockton pub's savings club
Members of the scheme - ran by The Garrick Hotel in Stockton - had been saving up to £100 per month to buy gifts for family and friends
Around 30 members of a pub’s Christmas saving club were left devastated when the entire £10,600 pot was stolen this week.

Oh why oh why didn't they save up in a credit union?

Re: [in the news] - Pub's savings club stolen

Multiple things are not "right" over this story...
1. Why did a publican (who is supposed to be a responsible person) hold this money on the premises and not place it in the bank?
2. If it had to be held on the premises, why was it not in the pub's safe?
3. How did the person who did this get access to the money?
This has the hallmarks of an inside job.

They seem to have the person that is responsible for the theft so it look like that person had prior knowledge and I would have thought they had the money on the premises as they were about to give it out.

I can promise it didn't go to my future TV scheme.  Wink
However it seems every Christmas one or more savings scheme is stolen/misappropriated/lost. It is getting as risky as keeping it in a bank.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

I don't understand why people get involved in these saving schemes Undecided
It's not as if the combined monies would give a much better interest return.
