Re: good news!

I agree. They took lives, so why should they be given theirs back after a finite period of time?

Re: good news!

Dead/Death means there is no hope of ever living a normal life...  so why shouldn`t a "whole life sentence" mean just that...
It is certainly a "life sentence" for the bereaved....

It's sad to say, but the only people the European Human Rights Act have helped are immigrants and criminals.

Re: good news!

Yet another fuss about absolutely nothing: the human rights court only said that sentences should be reviewed after 25 years, not that they couldn't be imposed or that they couldn't be upheld at the review.  In practice, this makes zero difference to anyone .. except the right wing press who get all hot and bothered because it involves Europe .. and human rights, which of course they're against because they're turkeys who want to vote for Christmas

Re: good news!

WTF it is hardly a fuss about nothing.
The EHRC suggested a full life tariff is illegal in the EU, and that we, the UK would have to guarantee a review after 25 years.
That is foreigners dictating to the UK how to punish criminals.
If you see that as a non issue, that makes no difference to anybody, then you are very much mistaken.
The country is in the mess it is, precisely because of the millions of WTF's sitting on their hands.

Re: good news!

It's not foreigners though is it?
We're one of the founding members of the Council of Europe which founded the Europan Convention of Human Rights.
How many "British" people are true Brits anyway?
Going back to the following:

The EHRC suggested a full life tariff is illegal in the EU, and that we, the UK would have to guarantee a review after 25 years.

Did they; or did they say that they accept that full Life Sentences could be justified there should be the option to have a review after a timeframe of our choosing (noting that the rest of Europe tends towards 25 years).
Indeed following this recommendation would bring England/Wales a little more inline with the UK
[quote="BBC"]In Scotland, there is no provision for a whole-life tariff, while prisoners given such a sentence in Northern Ireland may already have their cases reviewed
