giffgaff introducing data caps and throttling from 24th September

Shame...
Quote
Customers of mobile operator GiffGaff look set to be disappointed when it removes the “Unlimited Internet” component from two of their top interchangeable monthly SIM-only (goodybags) plans. The allowance will, effective from 24th September 2014, instead be replaced by a capped quota of just a few GigaBytes and a new Traffic Management change will drop some speeds to just 300Kbps (0.3Mbps).

Re: giffgaff introducing data caps and throttling from 24th September

Giff Gaff have been suffering from poor data speed issues most of this year.
It basically boils down to people extracting the urine with there use of mobile data & hogging the bandwidth.
The greed of the few has spoilt it for the rest of the Giff Gaff customers.
I was a Giff Gaff customer up until June, I left due to poor signal & non useable data, I used around 1.5 GB of data a month.
Some of the thread's on the forum & the amount of data people where using where shocking!, they where basically using Giff Gaff mobile data as a replacement for fixed line home broadband, 30+ GB of data wasn't unheard of before the crack down.

I don't think we even use more than 6GB on our land line yet alone 30!
On my 3 dongle I've never exceeded 1GB depite trying my hardest.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: giffgaff introducing data caps and throttling from 24th September

not bothered as I consider giffgaff 3g useless anyway, to not allow tethering makes it almost useless to me.
Luckily lately three's congestion issues have eased up in my area so they now semi useful for when FTTC is down.
Although I know three are winding down their 3g packages as well.
What all this tightening of allowances is in my view related to 4g.  None of these companies probably want unlimited usage on 4g, and to make 4g attractive they need to reduce the attractiveness of 3g services,

Does Three allow tethering?
You can tether on giffgaff on PAYG and certain goodybags

Re: giffgaff introducing data caps and throttling from 24th September

currently three plans which are sim only allow tethering but is mumblings it will be canned.
I have always seen giffgaff somewhat as a mugs game even tho I have a sim :p
The mockery of needing a passport or drivers licence to get uncensored internet.
The overhyped so called unlimited internet that doesnt allow tethering and isnt very fast to boot.
The lack of customer service. Instead is customer to customer service.
High amount of technical issues.
