free schools - what it means

It's just one part  of PM David Cameron's 'Big Society' idea
where those in their local community can take control over
their own lives and all the local services that were previously
in the  central control  of national government
'Anarchy In Action'  allows any community schools to be free of its Local Education Authority
What can happen now is that if your a teacher with your curriculum,   a five year business plan
for funding and a site where you can build your own school
you can now get permission to  build a school ,  and run it as 'a  free school' for profit

dont know who started it, but isnt that what the newer name Academy means?
we have three senior schools in my area and they all have a different speciality, What happened to the National curriculum?
And parents dont get a free choice of which school the children go to

the UK  Academies go back ten years first announced by labour's secretary of state for education
david blunkett
the idea behind academies is to address the problem of low academic achievement
or schools situated in communities with little or no academic aspirations.
Often these schools have been placed in "special measures",
a term denoting a school that is "failing or likely to fail to give its pupils an acceptable standard of education"
wow a private individual who is a teacher running Academies

The chief architect of the policy was Andrew Adonis (now Lord Adonis, former Secretary of State at the Department for Transport) i

Re: free schools - what it means

I'm now wondering what the chances would be of me being able to  place a bid for the funding government would provide to run a local library ?
or collect council taxes  or run the local park or cricket field  etc
councils are or have already sourced out  so much
ie waste removal , i maybe to late creating  any  projects
hmmm the sky is the limit here -  but there are things that should be ' not for sale '
as areas that  should be controlled by government to ensure regularity and commonality of its  services

The Academy (Ancient Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια) was founded by Plato in ca. 387 BC in Athens.

That was a proper school though - not a way of starting the dismantling of the state school system.

Re: free schools - what it means

the big society idea lets government off the hook
once services  are sold into a private individual hands
the government is no longer accountable to  the people for
those public services, its for private individuals or company
to deal with it
i'm very suspicious now i've heard the defence minister mr fox only yesterday declare
that funding of the armed forces is what tax is originally for

I can see taxes collected just to pay for government wars
like it was in the days of king john
and private individuals left to fund public services themselves for profit
anything not profitable they will end
