Re: any one for a Cruise

As a former bosun on a 45 footer, I once encountered a similar situation (in scale) off Orfordness, Suffolk. But this doesn't bear thinking about. Our boat crashed down into the trough and corkscrewed through 90 degrees. It took a time for the water to drain off the wheelhouse windscreen and for me to see where the landmark was that I was steering on. To have gone round the shoal would have taken four gallons of fuel at least, and our tanks were low at the time.

Had a similar experience a few years ago when I was on an open bridge on a Tall Ship. Come down the face of the wave and hit the trough which stalled the boat and I nearly went flying off the bridge.
