ah what do you do if you havnt a fixed phone line

Vodafone customers in part of Witham were left with only a partial service for 11 days due to a technical fault.
The problem left businesses and residents unable to get a reliable signal between January 31 and Saturday. A Vodafone spokesman said a hardware problem on a phone mast in the CM8 postcode area was reported on January 31 but the repair was delayed because a part needed to be ordered.
It was finally fixed on Saturday.

You could use one of these GSM desk phones to pretend you have a land line phone? (They work the same as a mobile phone.)
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: ah what do you do if you havnt a fixed phone line

I'd recommend anyone to keep at least one spare unlocked mobile (such as the Samsung being sold at Tesco for £10.00), you can also pick up a couple of different sims (just be sure they're on different networks) for a minimal outlay (many mobile providers will post you free ones on request).  If one network goes down you can get out the spare phone, pop in a sim, plug it into the charger if necessary and make the minimum top-up.

True, but look at it pierre. It's a desktop phone without a landline! How cool is that?!?!

Re: ah what do you do if you havnt a fixed phone line

Exactly. Home phone without the hassle of the landline.
What I really want to see is a cheap desktop phone like that, which can work using voip over a 3G dongle. I know skype do phone calls etc but their subscriptions aren't very cheap and neither is their hardware if memory serves. I must do more digging on that issue.

Something doesnt add up as that isnt 11 days.
A few years back was with out T-mobile service for over a month due to a fault, and recently there was a 2 - 3 week outage.  They used the same excuse about ordering in parts, but aparantly there wasnt parts in the UK for the month plus long outage.
