Re: Yahoo

Yahoo can't have long in this world now. Alta Vista baby.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Yahoo

The damage has been done here, as this was back in 2013.

Re: Yahoo

"The company, which is being taken over by Verizon"

What? Melissa Mayer has truly destroyed yahoo. I am shocked that its now being sold off to a mobile carrier. There was a time when yahoo could have easily bought verizon (or others) but it seemed like they couldn't be bothered with anything properly.

This is another reason why i need to move my email out of yahoo.. despite the huge storage allocation..

Re: Yahoo

See I'm not too worried about them owning flickr... but my email is becoming problematic if they can't keep it safe. I've since changed my password many times but for all we know they could have been hacked again (and probably have).

But I will agree with the general consensus that their time is limited.. which means so is the storage of my 25k emails Sad

On a side note, you may have closed your account but i'll bet yahoo have never deleted it from their database - it'll be marked as deleted but it'll still be there.

Re: Yahoo

@7up - You could always forward your 25K email to your Plusnet account. Mmm, on second thought maybe not. Tongue

Re: Yahoo

A (German I think) company called Lavaboom tried to set up a highly secure email service a year or two ago but went bankrupt before it got off the ground I seem to remember.

Re: Yahoo

Got an email from BT, whose old email service was provided by Yahoo!, urging me to change my password and security questions.  Since the problem occured nearly three and a half years ago, surely any damage would already have been done?

Re: Yahoo

Just received this

Hello,

You may have seen that Yahoo! announced that a copy of certain user account information was stolen from its company’s network in August 2013.

Yahoo! is the provider of some of BT’s customers email accounts and as your BT email account is provided by Yahoo! we believe your email account may have been affected.

As a precautionary measure we strongly recommend that you reset your password and security question, especially if you haven’t updated it since August 2013. We are sorry for this inconvenience.

Resetting your password
To reset your password and security question go to bt.com/changepassword

To find out more about how to protect yourself online and for tips on how to create strong passwords visit bt.com/protect-yourself

I must have been really bad in a previous life. This is my 3rd ISP in a row that uses lithium.

Re: Yahoo

Probably not.. it claimed my email address had been hacked from sites i've never used. I tried a second email, same thing.

EDIT:

If you go to this page:

https://haveibeenpwned.com/PwnedWebsites

you will see that it shows yahoo as having around 1/2 million accounts breached. The real number is around a billion.

So when you see EXPERIAN has had 7 million accounts apparently breached.. you may want to get your credit files / records checked.
