Yahoo - really massive security breach

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-37447016

Hackers stole information from about 500 million users from Yahoo, the company has confirmed.

The breach occurred in late 2014 and included swathes of personal identifiable information, as well as “unencrypted security questions and answers”.

It did not include any credit card data, the site said, adding it believed the attack was state-sponsored.

In July, Yahoo was sold to US telecoms giant Verizon for $4.8bn (£3.7bn).

It is not yet known if the breach will have an impact on that sale or its valuation.

'Massive breach'

News of a possible major attack on Yahoo emerged in August when a hacker known as "Peace" was apparently attempting to sell information on 200 million Yahoo accounts.

Yahoo on Thursday confirmed the breach was far bigger than first thought.

Yep, changed my yahoo password since then, mostly cos their site broke and I couldn't get in without resetting it...

Re: Yahoo - really massive security breach

Mine has been changed too.. and thankfully my email account only contains old addresses of where I once lived. That said with thousands of emails in there it may well be slightly tricky to dismiss all risk.

I now change my yahoo password every few months purely because their security is so flaming useless at keeping people out.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Yahoo - really massive security breach

So the admission comes out two years after the event.Roll eyes Unbelievable!

Given the way, though, how much folk nowadays move about, change banks, this that and the other, I doubt the info gained is of much value now. IMO only close after the event would have been danger time.

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Just reading this.

If BT sneezes, will Plusnet and it's customers catch a cold?
