Xmas

Once again it rears it's ugly head.....Xmas
No, not the event but the using of Xmas in place of Christmas.
Now to me an 'X' is a cross so when did Christmas become crossmas.
How hard can it be to type Christmas or should it be shortened to XM Roll eyes (best not give them ideas)

Re: Xmas

well the X is the first letter of the word Christ in Greek so some used it as an abbreviation and iirc was first used in the 1500's.

Re: Xmas

To me Xmas is the part of Christmas involving shops and adverts.
Where Christ has been crossed out.

Re: Xmas

Instead of abbreviating "Christmas", perhaps we should be more generic and call this time of year "Winter Time Festival".
I know what you're thinking !

Re: Xmas

My other half works at a Catholic school and it's celebrated as Advent. Instead of the Christmas party the last day of school, they're having 'Advent Food Share'...
