@shutter What's the car? And no, I wouldn't buy it, even if I had a licence.🤣

Re: Would you buy this hybrid car ?

If I remember correctly that was the ad with the 22 bit in small print.

They also left out the bit where they tell you the car was a milk float in another life.

Re: Would you buy this hybrid car ?

@billnotben That previous life wouldn't surprise me, and of course the embarrassing detail would be in small print.

@TTman  Thanks, but I'm still none the wiser, because I never watch TV ads.😀

Re: Would you buy this hybrid car ?

I fear that you are taking this advert out of context. As a Toyota owner I can assure you that these hybrids will keep at with the average car without any problems, even a Skoda, whilst maintaining very good fuel economy. The engine starts and stops as required, When cruising at the motorway legal speed limit it's only by looking at the tacho can I tell whether it is running.

However I doubt there are many vehicles such as taxis operating daily in large cities that average above 22 mph.

Me neither, I hardly watch Ads.

One of my favourites was the Visa advert by Bill Shannon, nope I won't post a link else I will get told off.

EDIT: Visa.

Correct !Smiley

Ideal car to buy really... especially if you live in London.., Birmingham, Manchester, where the "normal" day time traffic never exceeds the speed limit ! ! ..

Also... not likely to get it pinched by the "midnite travellers".. using a laptop and a keyreader ! ! ..

Nor will it get nicked from a carpark, by the druggies...

so... yeah... Maybe  ..... Maybee  ... I might...

Nah...I`ll  keep my Skoda  ....Cool

How can I possibly be taking it out of context when it is plainly being "touted" at the bottom of the screen in white letters to make it harder to read...but it is what TOYOTA are telling me... not me making it up... or getting it out of context...

Re: Would you buy this hybrid car ?

@shutter

It's an average - over an extended period. 22 mph seems pretty good.

If your car has a trip computer, try leaving it on 'average speed' for a few weeks - you might be surprised.

Re: Would you buy this hybrid car ?

@198kHz  No, I am not surprised at the Average Speed shown on my screen,....

I have my "average" mpg  running on the screen all the time...

My daily trips are around 1 to 1.5 hours... and the "average" speed is about 40mph...

The average mpg is around 60 to 61.5 mpg per trip.

Trips include a section of high speed dual carriage way for about 8 to 10 miles, and I`m usually doing about 55 to 60 mph on that road... the rest of the trips are on country roads where the "normal " "bimble about speed " is around 40 mph..the contour of the routes, does include hilly sections, it`s not all flat !  ! ..

Certainly better than the Hybrid car that TOYOTA is trying to sell me, in their advert....

Re: Would you buy this hybrid car ?

Yep and the good old major of London (I do know his real name, but I can't be bothered to look it up to get the spelling right), decides now is a good time to consider extending the Congestion Tax. Good old Siemens and ANPR and paying a fine for nothing, people who are under the false misguided assumption of paying an additional tax for nothing does any good.

Central London is not too bad, the first time I drove there and managed to find my way home I didn't cheat and use SatNav 😀

Let me try once more to explain.

This advert states that over the stated mileage at the stated average speed the engine only ran the stated percentage of the time. The rest of the time the car ran on its battery.

It is NOT saying that this 100 mph plus car will only average 22 mph!

To my mind if you need an automatic or are just fed up fiddling with a clutch and gear stick, come on, you can do it. I'm sure that you have got used to indicators rather than opening the window and waving your arm about, then this is a very good fuel efficient alternative to smelly diesels.

Re: Would you buy this hybrid car ?

Hybrid?

Over hyped and overpriced.

I'll wait to go all electric, for those batteries to last a lot longer and for the price to be lower - a lot lower.

I just need to be around long enough with marbles intact. 😆
