According to the OED:-
Woken is the usual past participle of the verb wake in modern English, but in some historical and contemporary varieties the past tense form woke is also used as a past participle.
Personally, I find people who say woke are just a bit weird.

@VileReynard I'm well aware of the 'normal'/accepted use of the word, it's just this perversion of the language that made me wonder if it was some kind of acronym.

Top of my head I think it's a US import from the African American group and a past tense contraction of being awake or aware of what's going on?
All very strange. We export English and it comes back scrambled, innit.
Can we still blame Brexit? 😃

Earlier (before your post) I was contemplating posing the question ...
"Was Hereward the Wake woke?"
I don't remember much about him as he's a distant memory from history lessons at school.

That would explain a lot, @Minivanman - Americans speak a language far removed from UK English, irrespective of their origin - I had difficulty understanding our visitors when a U.S. company took us over some 20 years back, and they were of European heritage.
Sadly, you can't blame Brexit in this case.😁

No sweat, as I doubt very much he'd want it back anyway, but regardless of what you do or don't think about that comment he made, its still a sad way to end a long and distinguished career.
Even in America it's three strikes and you're out, here it's just the inadvertent one.
Welcome to the boring twenties. 😞

@Minivanman I don`t know what he said.... not really interested... but when i see him on tv reporting the news, his facial expression always makes the news worse than it is...and it looks like he is doing an impression of trying to cry, to add further misery to what he is saying.

Perhaps and a little like myself, because of poor hearing you are more sensitive to facial expressions just as some (as in this case) are sensitive to what is being said. How would it be then that he feels the need to resign because you don't like the way he looks.
As far as I know, in quoting Shakespeare he upset just the one person - and in looking sad he upsets maybe just one other?
Should you feel the need to complain publicly because of it you would without a shadow of a doubt be ridiculed and be made to look a fool in front of your friends and family, yet object to a word and in today's climate you could count on the support of the wokes of this world to back you regardless, along with the full support of the easily offended snowflake generation.
Minorities have rights even if it does smack of self privilege, but they do not have the right to rule, ridicule or retribution... regardless.
Happy days eh, or not.
Just remembered my old Dad telling me about the offence of 'dumb insolence' when he was in the Army. Seems that if you looked at a senior rank in the wrong way you could be had up on a charge.

.. and I gave my answer... on explaining my answer. you turn it into a major offence that I should voice my opinion... if he gets his job back... I shall still do what I did before...use the channel changer.. and then he won`t get upset about it as much as you seem to have done..
