Windows 10 - non-tech topic!

I wonder if this will open a few floodgates? My neighbour lost a laptop to a Win 10 auto-update!

Microsoft has agreed to pay a Californian woman $10,000 (£7,500) after an automatic Windows 10 update left her computer unusable.

Microsoft will appeal against this and win. So it wont stand. IMHO

Microsoft appealed but then withdrew the appeal and paid the damages as was stated in the opening link

Note that this is California which has the strictest Consumer Protection Regulations in the USA

Oh missed that bit when I saw the story elsewhere. Sad I didn't follow that link in the OP as I thought I knew the details already.

A little thought is a dangerous thing.

No surprise there.

When friends and relatives ask me to help with a computer problem, my first query is to ask which operating system they have. The answer is usually "What's an operating system?" or "Google - I think."

Ms Goldstein's computer had "slowed to a crawl" after the update, and Microsoft customer support had not fixed the problem.

Ha, yes, "Microsoft customer support". I've heard of this, I think they are based in India and charge you $399.99 for unlimited supports and browser cleaning.
