Windows 10 32 or 64 bit

Help required from someone who understands Windows 10

I have a Samsung laptop with an i3 processor and 6GB Ram which was purchased with Windows 8 64 bit

The windows 8 was upgraded to 8.1 and then Windows 10 I understand to use over 4GB Ram Windows 10 64 bit is needed so how do I tell which type was I upgraded to

In device specifications I have

System type 64 bit operating system,x64-based processor

Windows specifications

Edition    Windows 10 Home

Version     1803

When updates are done they come in as Windows 10 version for x64 based system

But in System Directory C:WINDOWS\system32

Very confusing

C:WINDOWS\system32 exists in Win 10 x64

Re: Windows 10 32 or 64 bit

@Anonymous, it's for backward compatibility with 32 bit version of Windows. A 64 bit OS will normally be able to run a 32 bit program but certainly not the other way around. So in order to do this a 64 bit Windows will keep copies of 32 bit libraries etc to facilitate this support.

Re: Windows 10 32 or 64 bit

That confirms it's a 64 bit version

But in System Directory C:WINDOWS\system32

The windows system directory is always that , both for 32 or 64 versions., confusing isn't it. The problem is that so much of windows expects/assumes that the system directory is C:WINDOWS\system32 and so it was kept like that for 64 bit versions.

What's even more confusing is that, on 64 versions there is another directory called C:WINDOWS\sysWOW64 which contains any 32 bit system files.

Only Microsoft could come up with that...
