Re: Win 95 anyone

Pretty sure I've still got a Windows 95 disc still sealed in the plastic somewhere in the house.

Re: Win 95 anyone

I still remember my Win95 serial key, quite handy as I installed 95OSR2 on a faux-SSD'd Toshiba Libretto 50CT recently, that thing flies along... Grin

Re: Win 95 anyone

Pretty cool.
Ok a bit of a mid-late 90s computing nostalgia.
I think it was 1996 or 1997 when we got a new Pentium 133 PC than ran Windows 95 OSR2, after a few years on an Amstrad 8086 with MS-DOS, GEM Desktop and Windows 2.03. I remember that the Windows 95 disc had a load of videos on it, including the Edie Brickell one linked above, a Happy Days Weezer music video, and also a trial of the game Hover (or was that on a Microsoft sampler disc?).
It was a fairly stable computer, except for a few DirectX-related problems in games. Tomb Raider II (after seeing it on GamesMaster on Channel 4) triggered some driver bugs in the Aztech AZT2320 ISA sound card. Aztech's tech support were great - they sent me a 3.5" floppy containing the latest drivers through the post, since we didn't have the internet. Not long after I upgraded the ATI Mach64 graphics card to a Rage II+, with a huge 4MB VRAM. We initially used the 28.8K ISA modem for dial-up to Freeserve, and then replaced that with a PCI V.90 Winmodem (Diamond Supra or something). For a time we used ic24 too, who offered free dial-up in hourly chunks via an 0800 number (remember them?).

I think that was a full game (and indeed on the CD), a few levels granted, but no limits to how far you can progress in the game... Smiley
On a related note, I was watching The Simpsons a few weeks back, and noticed they had a couch gag done by Bill Plympton, and it instantly made me think of his video on the CD of his idea of Windows95:

Re: Win 95 anyone

Meanwhile Microsoft have changed Windows 10 to a recommended upgrade meaning it will automatically download to your PC regardless of whether you want it.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
