Why does the bbc only use http

Is this not going to be a bit confusing for people since google is soon to announce that using http only sites would be a potential security risk, or did I miss something ?
Or would the the bbc be on a special allowed list.....

Re: Why does the bbc only use http

The down side of moving all services from http to https, is that it causes most parental control, and other web content filters, to become useless.

I'm surprised that the BBC isn't running IPv6 yet !
The BBC has often been at the forefront of new technology, and had an IPv6 site running on World IPv6 Day: 8th June 2011
The majority of websites I visit are now IPv6 enabled, the exceptions for me being Plusnet, BBC, and eBay.  Embarrassed

Re: Why does the bbc only use http

I'm sure it's due to the unique way the BBC is funded, not enough cash in the pot ever since they built Media City in Salford (the reason there's been a lot more repeats in the past few years on auntie's channels), that or they don't see security as being a priority... Huh

Re: Why does the bbc only use http

Given that one is not exchanging information with bbc.co.uk is there a need for https?

Re: Why does the bbc only use http

I think this a continuation of American companies reacting to the NSA spying on their customers traffic, so Google, Apple, Facebook, Youtube, etc in the past few months have converted to https to make snooping their traffic more difficult.
Unfortunately as with many things American, they expect everyone else to follow - whether they need to or not.

Re: Why does the bbc only use http

Well I see that parts of the the bbc do use it where applicable https://ssl.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mg74/contact
Does the bbc use https when people make an account to post comments, I'm sure they would want your email address and contact details ?
I've not got an account so i'm guessing.
