Who was the best Doctor Who?

Just because I'm bored as there's not much on tonight on TV, thought I'd do a Who related poll.

Re: Who was the best Doctor Who?

I think Tom Baker just tops David Tennant with John Pertwee in third place.
I still think that the Troughton/Pertwee years were more scary/sinister. Maybe that's simply because I saw them as a child and that's how I remember them.

Re: Who was the best Doctor Who?

As strange looking as he is, Matt Smith is the best I think. I did like David Tennant but I do feel that smithy was better suited to the role.

Re: Who was the best Doctor Who?

I think the answer to this question may well be the main actor who played the role at the time you grew up watching it. For me that was Jon Pertwee followed by Tom Baker. I didn't particularly like Tom Baker when he took over but looking back feel he actually was a better actor. That said I feel David Tennant brought a lot to the role and therefore my vote goes to him. It may of course have something to do with the fact the show had a decent script writer at the same time, Matt Smith didn't stand much chance with the recent boring stories reminiscent of some of the older ones from the plastic set era.

Re: Who was the best Doctor Who?

Tom Baker was "my doctor" - he was fantastic.
I did warm to Matt Smith though - he is a local and my mum knows his mum etc. We also saw him at the Royal Albert Hall on the Dr Who at the Proms - it was a fantastic evening and he made a lot of effort with the audience.

Re: Who was the best Doctor Who?

My top three would be
Patrick Troughton            - great with the cybermen who were much more ruthless back then
Tom Baker                      - the mad scientist with just the right amount of quirky humour
Christopher Ecclestone    - the only doctor that was more scarier than his enemies

Re: Who was the best Doctor Who?

Of course the next question is who was your favourite assistant?
Mine was Jo (with Jon Perteee). - and yes I was too young then to appreciate the pose she did with the Dalek !  Shocked
K9 was also a fave.

Poses...I found two Shocked
I voted for Tom Baker as on of the wackiest Doctors....and still is a wacky character.

Re: Who was the best Doctor Who?

Assistants have not persisted in my memory, probably because they were peripheral characters (to my mind, anyway). The only exception would be K9, and then probably because he (or it) was a unique 'character'.

I liked the Sylvester McCoy era, but only because I was in love with Sophie "Ace" Aldred.
