Which? review sites do you use?

I've just subscribed for a quid to the afore mentioned site, in all honesty at first glance it looks far from what i was expecting... seeing as most of the stuff these days seem to bear a tag of theirs!  It also seems biased, and the reviews seem far to old. Am i missing something? Take shavers for example.
Anybody got any wisdom on a good shaver for a lad for cristmas around the150 quid mark with ***** stars etc.

This may sound silly but I use Amazon and look at the comments by customers
I used to subscribe to Which in the days when it came through the door but I saw so many mistakes and stupid recommendations for specialist items that I stopped it.
I tend to go to the library when I really want to see what Which say about something

We do normally, but i thought just for once maybe there is a bit of honesty and up to date information out there, especially for 9.99 a month.
Seems i was wrong.

I agree with Oldjim. My brother still gets Which? magazine. The articles used to have full page reviews but now are small summaries and keeps on referring you to the online reviews (which are not much better!).
When I want to buy say an electric toothbrush, as an example I'll use Google to find reviews - that way it helps find the ones to consider. (trustedreviews.com is a good website for electricial items)

Re: Which? review sites do you use?

Which? are pretty good in my experience. But, what you have to bear in mind is that they only have a limited time with what they are reviewing, whereas a customer will have a lot longer too find any 'problems'.
Plus, a Which? review is just one person's opinion. If you get just Which? saying something is terrible, but user reviews say it's good, which are you going to believe?

Not at all, Amazon customer reviews are an excellent source of information. I've more than once been put off buying a product because of the reviews. However a fair number of reviews are low starred because of no problem with the product, but because of problems with delivery issues and customer service with sellers or manufacturers customer service. Judging by the complaints it sometimes occurs to me that its not the customer service that is at fault but the approach of the customer.
If a product gets consistently 4 and 5 stars and a very small handful of 1 star, I tend to read carefully the 1 star complaint and usually disregard it
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Something else I do if I want to see reviews on a product is to type 'Product'+review into Google.  It brings up many useful reviews.
The one site I do not trust for reviews is Trip Advisor.  They have received much adverse criticism for the way they compile their reviews.

+1. I also use google and just in the products name and the word 'reviews' to see what else turns up.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

I've had my choice of purchase amended a few times by Amazon customer reviews and I always try to leave my own on purchases.

Re: Which? review sites do you use?

I use Amazon to check the reviews for products...even though I'm not buying it via Amazon...their reviews are very informative and helped me buy a fantastic set of 2.1 speakers with an external amplifier for my pc.
I also check reviews via Google and have used trustedreviews.com as well.

Re: Which? review sites do you use?

I'm with Oldjim, Amazon and other online stores have very useful customer reviews and I personally think that you can't beat information from actual owner/users. However, just like the feedback section on this forum it is important to remember that frequently the people that bother to leave reviews have either had a particularly good experience or quite a bad one. Star rated systems do help here particularly if you can differentiate between product, delivery, supplier experience etc., a bit like on eBay.

The Gillette Fusion was rated highly when the Gadget Show compared various shavers.
Won't cost you £150 so you could get something else as well!  Smiley
