Which ISP has the oldest forum base & which has the newest forum base ??

As per the title
& Which are locked to only paying customers / unlocked to all
ATM & IMO
Plusnet has the oldest, whereas TalkTalk has the newest
Plusnet seems locked to paying customers, whereas TalkTalk is open to all
It is not a question of who is the best / worst ISP or how they run their forum(s) etc

There is a lot of useful information on this community that those considering moving to Talk Talk may find useful.

They can see that there is a network of people on here with real knowledge and expertise that can support them should they need it.  This is a great asset and should be available for those that may decide they want to join us one day.  Equally those that aren't customers but have knowledge in this area may like to pop on and help out some of our other customers.  It does happen and can help, so it's nothing something that we would close off.

Edit:

I agree, make it a customer only forum. It's the only way.

To say it's a useful forum for non customers is interesting. If I was a non customer, it would put me off becoming a customer as most people only post when they have a problem.

Maybe TalkTalk dont want any new customers ?

Re: Which ISP has the oldest forum base & which has the newest forum base ??

As soon as my broadband and phone was moved back to PlusNet from TalkTalk access to their fora was closed even though my account with TT was still open and there was an on-going dispute. I never understood why and was never given any reason even though I could clearly see other former customers fora access was still available to them.

Plusnet has the oldest, whereas TalkTalk has the newest

Plusnet is relatively recent.
Most of the older forums used usenet - which goes back to the dawn of time.
I go back to about 1997...

I'd hazard a guess that Demon Internet had the earliest presence on Usenet and IRC of any UK ISP?

Demon Internet is a British Internet Service Provider. It was one of the UK's earliest ISPs, especially targeting the "dialup" audience. It started on 1 June 1992 from an idea posted on CIX by Cliff Stanford of Demon Systems Ltd. The branch in the Netherlands started in 1996, and was sold to KPN in June 2006, its operations being taken over by their XS4ALL subsidiary.[1] The business was financed early on by Internet pioneer David Tabizel of Durlacher and received substantial backing from Apax Partners.[2]
In 1998 Demon was bought by Scottish Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of the private utility company Scottish Power.
Scottish Telecom rebranded as Thus plc in October 1999 and floated on the London Stock Exchange.
Thus plc fully demerged from Scottish Power in 2002.
Thus became part of Cable & Wireless plc, and then part of Cable & Wireless Worldwide following a split of its parent.
The company was purchased as part of the acquisition of Cable & Wireless Worldwide by Vodafone Group on 27 July 2012.
Demon now operates as a brand of Vodafone.

Demon was very good in the early days, but must be absolute [censored] now.  Roll eyes

This is the ealiest example of the computerised forum, Bulletin Board System and social media I could find. It was called Community Memory and was created by a group of sandal wearing computer students during the radical era at Berkley in California. Launched in 1973, it predates the Facebook generation by a whole generation!
