Wow what a landing Smiley Smiley  Interestingly, no fire trucks followed him down the runway.

Re: Wheels? Who needs wheels?

Not even time to get the drinks trolley out before the emergency  Grin
It demonstrates the very high level of training that pilots receive.

Hope he didn't get charged landing fees on a per runway basis Cheesy
Can't believe there were no fires, sparks or debris but great flying...straight down the line.

Re: Wheels? Who needs wheels?

I think someone had actually nipped out and spread a layer of WD40 on the runway just before he landed!
Shutter, did you let your parrot watch the bonking kakopo on the Stephen Fry documentary last night?  Smiley

Re: Wheels? Who needs wheels?

A quick look seems to indicate he couldn't get the flaps down either so had to come in fast.
Well it didn't surprise me really - as you are taught emergency landing drills and as such you would :
a) switch off the fuel
b) switch off electrical supply
Good pilots would be able to make smooth landing like this almost as a matter of routine.
Quite a few professional pilots also flying gliders and know how to land without engines -
I'm not saying this pilot didn't do a good job - he very clearly is a skilled pilot - but such people are quite commonplace - thank goodness.

Shutter would know of course that Naval aircraft are covered in WD40 or something equivilent - stops the airframes from coroding - but it makes the aircraft rather sticky !.
They would use foam if the airfield was so equipped.
