Wheel bearing cost!

Anyone got an idea of how much i should be paying for a wheel bearing replacement on a 2004 Saab 9-3!
Not main dealer, independant garage?

Re: Wheel bearing cost!

If you phone a main dealer they will give you a price that will be to the top end that you can expect to pay.  This will help you when shopping round.

Problem with DIY is these days a lot of specialist tools are usually required

Re: Wheel bearing cost!

I know that on my much loved [ahem] Megane, the bearings are part of an assembly which includes the brake disc, thusly making it seem comparatively more expensive than a simple bearing replacement on other cars.
Dunno if its applicable, but thought I'd mention it.

But Haynes manuals often show where these are not essential or can be made easily.
However for the non mechanical people it's usually best to leave it to the experts especially concerning critical safety areas like brakes and wheels.

Absolutely no idea, one of those occasions when you need to know a mechanic you can trust. I have a mate that does a lot of my minor work which he only does as a hobby outside of his job (He's a driver) so I buy him the tool to do the job and maybe a bit extra. I guess you might have to shop around and find the most honest independant  Undecided

Re: Wheel bearing cost!

Yeah i dont do mechanics, joinery, electrical, decorating.
I do computers, football and beer!
I usually end up getting shafted sticking my car into the garage for EVERYTHING, but i need it to get to work (500 miles per week) so its kind of necessary!
