Whats the cheap way of giving files to people now then?

Years ago a floppy disk was all you needed and cheap and reuseable. CDs are a waste for a file of less than 50Kb and one use only if you use a cheap one. Thumb drives you 'lend' to a friend with files and they disappear...
So.. how do I give a colleague at work a small excel file when I don't have his email address? Floppy drives have vanished! I only need to give him a spreadsheet but I don't have his email and I doubt he's one to even use email anyone  Angry
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Well you could upload it to a file hosting site, like Dropbox for example. Then just write down the sharing link on a piece of paper and hand it to them, so they can download it.

I frequently upload a password protected rar file to Rapidshare for this purpose.
Or why not upload to your own webspace?

If the friend wants the files get the friend to provide the media.

I use Dropbox, they don't need to create any accounts just download the file via a link.

I just stick the file on my server and give them the link to that... easy enough to set up a linux box with apache or similar and 50k isn't gonna hurt your upload too much.

What I generally do is put files onto rewritable CD's (very cheap to buy).
When any other files are required I just say bring your CD over and I'll put it on there.

Don't want to state the obvious but a usb flash drive is perfect, price for a 1mb is either free or....
Just out of interest a 50kb excel file cant have more than 20 entries in it?
Have just created a spread sheet with 18 entries and size is 52kb so could print it, and let him re-enter

Not entirely sure what you define as 'entires' however this is quite a complex spreadsheet for working out self employment figures etc and its exactly 52Kb at the moment however when I give him a blank template version it will be even less.
Bit of a waste for a CD..

Re: Whats the cheap way of giving files to people now then?

Not knowing Excel I just opened it and wanted to see how much data took till 52kb...
But the USB flash drive is you cheapest option, and if you don't have one you could always upload it to your phone
