Whats next then?

Scam wise?
We've had the bankers causing the credit crunch. MPs helping themselves to the public purse with no rules, media group;s hacking peoples phones, security services spying on absolutely ev everything and now car manufacturers fiddling their emissions tests in order to look clean and sell cars that were actually disgusting polluting filth emitters.
Now since Labour was in power things seemed to start easing in the form of enforcement of the rules. It seems that most folks at the top took advantage of this and started playing dirty and since the tories have come to power things have started being revealed.
So what do you think the next big scandal will be?

Re: Whats next then?

something to do with public transport, my local area has just rebranded all the subsidised busses reduced the prices and gotten rid of several contract companies (looks like were headed back 20 years to pre privatisation and affordable public transport) I know its a pilot scheme but if it works I wonder if perhaps local councils wont suddenly realise that contracting out everything and its dog is vastly more expensive than operating everything in house .....
we are already getting reports about the gross overspends going on within the NHS with at least one trust paying over a million quid for an accountant to identify where savings could be made, I could of suggested to them that paying agency for agency nurses at £93/hr or direct hires at £16/hr would be a good place to start ....... followed up with everyone who's currently getting more than £500k/yr getting a reduction in salary to something more appropriate .......and that would of cost them zero ........instead some douche bag who's getting paid £1.3 mill a year hires another douche bag and grossly overpays them as well ....

Actually you saying that, I recently sent in a FOI request to my local NHS trust about their website development. They pay one person over £56k per year to put each page online and he doesn't even need to use html - just a WYSIWYG editor with pre-made templates  Crazy Easy money if you can get it... but why? - Why do they pay so much for something so simple? - The guy doesn't even need to know server side scripting  Roll eyes

Re: Whats next then?

Because the stupid moronic fossil's at the top care more about public image and ensuring the perception of value for money than actually achieving it, and they all sit on the same committees slapping each other on the back and voting each other pay rises safe in the knowledge they are irreplaceable (because that's what they all tell anyone who asks about each other) so the excessive wages and draining of public finances continues apace......

So.... here is your chance to be a hero, and save them £55k per year... offer your services for the same job, at a rate of £1k per year... and you may even get offers from other NHS trusts.  even if it was only 10 trusts, you saved the same amount of money from, ... and your income would be £10k per year....... as you so rightly say... " easy money... if you can get it...  " ..  Wink

Nothing ventured........ nothing gained.........
send a letter, ... I`m sure you can find out who is responsible for the finances... and / or the person in charge of the IT dept, that authorised the spend on the website.... copy to both "leaders"..

Re: Whats next then?

That goes along with all other aspects of NHS spending, like on drugs.
I've never understood why the NHS pays so much when with all the clout they have they should be spending the least per unit.
I can't think of any reason for the overspend except when paying a drugs company "two for you, one for me".

Re: Whats next then?

well you might think that but sadly no, pre 1998 yes it was the case but since then the med supply agency was disbanded and each trust became responsible for ordering and paying for its own supplies, pre the millennium reorg of the NHS where the whole shebang was broken down into micro scale businesses (in preparation for complete privatisation in line with EU goals) excessive numbers of middle managers were recruited and jobs were fabricated like no tomorrow, in many hospitals individual wards had purchasing managers and instead of a hospital wide buying power they had zero influence or ability, so costs rose inline with the diminished powers, crepe bandages that used to cost pennies each to the NHS suddenly cost pounds never mind the specialist dressings and wound covers (which is why so many home care patients have to either get them on prescription individually or buy their own)  its an utter shambles and the only hope now is that it will be gutted of all that unnecessary jobs for those that could justify keeping them buy sacking the nurses types are tossed to the kerb where they belong, national health service scream centralised buying /storing/stockpiling/ buying power and we need it back now more than ever, get rid of all these individual hospital trusts (they don't work) return to civil service county/region centric management and return the trusts to their former status as volunteer patient welfare groups, not hand in trough bureaucratic monoliths of a failed ideology and do it fast before the whole system collapses!
