If all else failed and the patient had to be medically blinded then surely some kind of  implanted cataract would have been a better solution than drain cleaner as it would probably have been reversible.

I worked in a bar once and trained the resident parrot to whistle the theme from "Star Wars".
There used to be a birding group of 'twitchers' who reconed they could identify e any bird by it's song, "Captain Ahab" caught them out every time, couldn't get him to say "pieces of eight " though  Tongue
