Re: What the Government spends out money on

Interesting how welfare and pensions have been seperated in those charts just to try and make a point.
Somebody isn't anti poor people by any chance?
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: What the Government spends out money on

Quote "You need to define what you include in 'Welfare' The government includes all kinds of things that are not generally thought of as welfare, for example public service pensions. There are also tax credits included, but not, for some reason, tax allowances. What is generally thought of as Welfare, i.e. benefits for unemployed working age, is a very small fraction of this total, and much closer to the public perception."
any government  Spin chart can show what they want to , by adding extra to each item which does not necessary show the correct amount .
If you look at the chart EU payment is 1%, actual payment is  about 20 billion a year , so looking at the chart if 1% is 20 billion, so cost of GOV admin is 2% so its 40 billion  Huh Huh
so basically you can make a chart say what you want  , especially as the Gov wants to cut more on the welfare !  AGAIN
SPIN SPIN SPIN  Crazy

Re: What the Government spends out money on

A few facts
Total UK Government tax income 2013/14 £b573.5 http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2010/apr/25/tax-receipts-1963
Gross UK Contribution to EU 2012 just under £b15 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11645975
Net UK Contributions 2011 (sorry I can't more up to date info) £b4.7 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/9643193/EU-budget-who-pays-what-and-how-it-is-spe...
So 1% of 573.5 is 5.73 so not so far out then

Re: What the Government spends out money on

No it doesn't
What it says is
Quote
During the LBC leader’s debate UKIP leader Nigel Farage claimed the UK’s membership fee of the EU is “£55 million a day” – the equivalent of about £20 billion in total per year.
and then goes on to disagree with it

That chart is much more realistic. Suddenly the 'unemployed benefit ' doesn't seem so....well big. Shame you George shame on you!

Re: What the Government spends out money on

What is interesting is that the publication has triggered lots of comment and different ways of looking at the figures.
As long as the breakdown methodology is defined, that's fine, and hopefully the most relevant one(s) will be used in any specific debate (fat chance!).
The more we see, the clearer it "should" become what the truth is.
The one quoted above, initially by Kelly, is an interesting different way of looking at it.

Re: What the Government spends out money on

Well said HP  Wink
but i was trying to explain to Jim that the Pie he posted only shows what this present Gov wants you to see , as they want excuses to cut the benefit payment ,
but as we can see this is not exactly    The truth  its been altered to show  things in the way they want only !

Re: What the Government spends out money on

Well obviously, it's taken as read that the presentation will be to suit the agenda of the publisher. Lies, damned lies and statistics.....  Grin
But with a good selection of different publishers and agendas, as they say "The Truth Will Out".
(By the way the EU payment you commented on is "reduced" in the sense that it is automatically halved by the automatic rebate, so the €2billion figure was never going to be paid, it was just the "base" for calculations. After that they've also negotiated a delayed and split payment without any interest penalty. Thought the interest is trivial in comparison at European Central Bank rates of 0.05%.)
