Re: What's happening in Qatar

no jc is going to steel all Qatar's money in a couple of days through his clever plan, push 90% of business into bankruptcy through excessive taxation then the state can step up and appoint its own oligarchs who will rule the region as "regional cooperative businesses"

and there's not very much either country can do about it, us because were not allowed any guns to oppose such epic stupidity and Qatar because it cant do business with anyone whilst its under sanctions /

No.

But after the election we will send British troops into Quatar, take over the country and it's oil and become one of the richest countries in the world and at a stroke solving all those underfunding problems with the NHS, Education and all the rest.

Qatar's wealth is in natural gas [and a lot of central London property], oil is minor.

Re: What's happening in Qatar

I accept the point about the oil.

But Oil, Gas, property or whatever they are still very wealthy.

Seems our government Tory or Labour never seem happy unless we are a war with someone or forcing our way of life on to others by whatever means possible.

@twocvbloke

Interesting population details from Wiki, 'Qatar's total population was 2.6 million: 313,000 Qatari citizens and 2.3 million expatriates'.

Now that's just plain weird.

Many of them are Filipinos employed in the construction sector, and they are now effectively cut off from the outside world. The Philippines has put a ban on more of them going there.

 And this looks to have been the trigger for the severing of diplomatic relations...

Re: What's happening in Qatar

Al Jazeera has claimed all its systems, websites and social media accounts have been hit by a cyberattack. The reported cyberattack on Thursday comes as Al Jazeera is at the centre of Qatar's row with fellow Arab states over allegations the country supports terrorism.

Re: What's happening in Qatar

A note in the Telegraph Business section this morning says that two Qatari super-carriers of LNG headed for the UK have turned back before entering the Suez canal. Apparently the UK is still recorded as their destination.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: What's happening in Qatar

@AlaricAdair

"However, UK gas traders are watching the diplomatic situation closely. Prices briefly moved higher on Friday after two LNG tankers from Qatar suddenly changed course when sailing towards the Red Sea. The Al Mafyar and Zarga tankers may still head to Europe, shipping sources said, but may choose to avoid Egypt’s Suez canal, sailing around the southern tip of Africa instead.

Access to the Suez canal is governed by international treaty, and Egypt should not be able to block vessels, analysts say, but could increase costs for them".
