What's all this prom nonsense?

I see yet another mention in the news about British girls and their prom nights - when did it became a prom night?
I always thought it was the school dance or ball. When did we adopt the America prom?

Re: What's all this prom nonsense?

Quite a while, the school I have been driving to/from for the last seven years or so has been holding end of term "proms" for all of that time.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: What's all this prom nonsense?

Pretty sure we just had a 'leavers disco' in the school hall (probably free of charge).

I'm sure they must have had discos back in the days of the dinosaurs -

@purleigh Lol !
I wish this country would stay English (+ Irish, Scottish & Welsh) and does not talk and merge cultures with the Yanks.
I've noticed newsreaders and politicians now say 'Welfare' instead of Social Security. I'm sure there are plenty more examples.

Agreed.
We seem to inherit everything from the states eventually, probably because we watch too many American TV programmes !
I can think of quite a few more things we inherited from them that I'm not too keen on either, KFC, McDonalds (yuk!), obesity.....  Wink
It was a disco in my day, I didn't go. Too American....  Shocked

Agreed +2
However both my kids went to proms when they finished school. They and their friends all had a great time dressing up in posh frock and dinner jackets.
I think the take up of the American prom here is a harmless enough import from the US

My pet hate is how tv channels are now calling a series a 'season'.
It is a TV SERIES!!!  Undecided  Angry

Exactly that!
And what makes it worse, is when they say 'the new SEASON of'.. then straight after 'Now the last in the SERIES'  At least stick with one or the other!
