What is the Universe like ?

well in order to find out
lets look at the biggest thing in the Universe
But what is  the biggest thing in the universe?
Most astronomers agree that its  a  'cosmic web'
an endless scaffolding  of super clusters of galaxies surrounded by  dark matter (see photos)
an invisible and mysterious form of matter and accounts for 90% of the universes Mass
dark matter? what is that?
you may well ask
well,  it emits no light
meaning you cant see it
why ?
because its to dark
its only when you look at the objects that fill it
that the web of dark matter all becomes visible
its like a 3D spiders web and at the  centre
of every vortex(centres of fidgetiness, see photos) are clusters of thousands of galaxies
the clusters connecting via filaments(other clusters of galaxies)to all the other
clusters of galaxies and so forth
all the way across the volume of the universe
the web , it contains all the matter in existence
basically it contains everything in the universe
looking at the  photos
to see how the web is made up of hundreds of thousands of super cluster complexes
that are mega collections of galaxies
each gravitational bound, up to hundreds of millions of light years across
below is the hierarchic nature of the universe starting with the
universe
super clusters of galaxies
clusters of  galaxies
galaxies
stars
the current record holder for the largest cluster of super galaxies is
called the shapley super cluster
its 400  million light years long
spanning several constellations and is almost 650 million light years
from our own milky way galaxy(which contains Earth) and 4000 times the size of our own milky way
its one of the most massive things known of in the universe
this cosmic web , super clusters of galaxies linked together from one side of the universe to the other
we are constantly looking monitoring for other worlds just like our own

Re: What is the Universe like ?

In honesty I'm still not convinced that dark matter is real.
Stephen Hawking was explaining about it recently on TV saying that when the universe was first formed it was a massive explosion followed by smaller explosions of matter and anti-matter colliding and nullifying each other out.
Well.. when you strike a match you don't see Anti-matter come along and kill it do you and thats a similar type of thing - large flame from a small spark.
Maybe I'm wrong.. anti-m may exist but even if it doesn't it's not much of a threat to us at the moment and I certainly can't see CERN creating any.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: What is the Universe like ?

Amazing to think that when you are looking at things in the universe you don't really see them. What you see is the light that comes off these objects so if it takes the light 100 years to reach you it could have ceased to exist during this time and you would still be seeing it.
Not that anything really ceases to exist but just changes it's form.

Re: What is the Universe like ?

the  nearest galaxy(the Andromeda Galaxy ) to our own galaxy the (milky way, this giant star system
of which our solar system is a part )
is about 2.5 million light years away
its more than 220 thousand light years across
photos shows it captured by a ground based telescope
seen in the visible light
photo 3 shows it in its most detailed view
under ultra violet light seen today
viewed in UV light
notice the striking difference between the galaxies
central bulge and its spiral  arms
the bulge in middle is redder because its full of old  and cooler
stars  and few new stars are formed here
as most of the material needed to make them have been deleted
in contrast Andromeda spiral arms sparkle with dense clusters of
new and young(the parents offspring)stars as in our own galaxy
these arms contain most of the gas and dust needed to produce
a new generation of stars
m31's clusters are especially plentiful in a giant ring around galaxy
which  is about 150 thousand light years across
which exist because of tinier action with small satellite galaxies

there's just billions of galaxies

Re: What is the Universe like ?

kiss the new world
all the colours of the rainbows
but when my sky clouds over
lift me up
when the day is  over
take me up
when the sun is going down
i'll be your angel
when the lights are fading
when i'm flying way up high
i'll be your angel for life
lift me  up , take me up show me love
