What have you done with yours today...?

Paper Licence
I have scanned mine for posterity and will shred it later.

Re: What have you done with yours today...?

I've carefully extracted all 9 pieces of it from my wallet.
I will then lay them out on my scanner...scan them to a secure location and file the original away, maybe sticking the pieces together with sticky tape.

Note this is ONLY the new Counterpart paper licence. If you still have the older paper licence without the Photo Card, don't shred that Shocked

I have and I didn't (though, like Strat, mine's falling apart in my wallet).

A man from the DVLA, when asked about the above was full of answers.
All major car hire companies have been made aware.
People can access the DVLA website from a PC or smart phone and get a code to give to the hire company.
People can phone the DVLA and get the code that way.

If I was planning to hire a car abroad in the coming months I'd ring the hire company prior to going to ensure they are aware of the changes and then I would be prepared if not.

Both Avis and Hertz have my details and I just turn up and the keys are in my hand in less than a minute.

Can't see this working in most hire car offices in Europe! They'll either ignore it or make it up.  Cheesy

Re: What have you done with yours today...?

It's no major issue. It simply allows the rental company to see how many points you may have on your licence. Already a number of the big US companies say it doesn't matter as far as they are concerned.
If you get a code it is valid for 72 hours.

They already do! Many never used to ask to see the paper counterpart either!

Mine was scanned ages ago.. the original is kept safely tucked away.. I see this plan of DVLAs annoying people. What do those with no internet now do?

Re: What have you done with yours today...?

The last time i tried phoning DVLA, i gave up waiting in the queue... besides.. i learned once that you never trust what they tell you on the phone because they deny all knowledge in writing when they try to have you for something.
