What freaks you out in films/TV?

I can watch most films/TV without flinching whether they involve blood and gore, adult themes, horror, sadness and so on but one theme that has me wincing is when someone is trapped be it under water, in a cell, held captive. As long as the person appears trapped with no way out it gets me jittery, too Cheesy
So what scene(s) tend to freak you out?

Someone standing on the edge of a high building. I'm not good with heights even when it's not me on the edge.

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

I wouldn't say it freaks me out, I can watch blood and guts with no problem, but scenes of violence just for the sake of it really sicken me at times.Goodfellas being a case in point...films like that show violence as if it was porn.
I also very much dislike seeing so called love scenes in films/tv shows...I think it's gratuitous and wholly unnecessary.Remember older films when they just slowly cut away and left it to our imagination. ?...it was one thing I loved about The X-Files, that it wasn't sullied by that nonsense lol

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

Not much to be honest except scenes where you know something is going to jump out or be shocking any second.
The only thing that ever did seriously disturb me and make me feel ill was the film 2012 about the end of the mayan calender / world. I've never known a film do that to me but it really did make me feel very sick.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

Anything involving paracites/the body being 'invaded'. Anything involving (and perhaps related to the previous) 'pustules' and one of my hated words 'spores'.
Kissing/sex scenes. I don't want to see that nonsense, thanks, and I certainly can't stand hearing the actors slobbering and lip smacking. UGH. I particularly detest how almost anything film or television MUST HAVE TITS. It's a bank robbery: MUST HAVE TITS. Hey, my sick grandmother needs expensive medicine: MUST HAVE TITS. Wow, the moon is going to crash into the earth and all life will be destroyed if we don't get off the planet: MUST HAVE TITS. Oh puhleeze!
I get very uncomfortable with underwater stuff, finding it quite distressing (though I confess The Abyss was a favourite film). I also dislike gratuitous violence - I hated Natural Born Killers for that reason.
Oh, and spiders. In anything, for any reason or none. Just spiders. NO!

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

Three things,
1, People floating in mid air like in Salems lot, when David Soul is in a 10th floor apartment, he hears a knock at the window and when he opens the curtains, there is a vampire floating outside his window.
2. Ghosts that move really quick in horror movies, they move a few yards really quick and then stop, then zip about again, then stop.
3. Any children in horror movies, like the little girl with the hair over her face in the ring.
I remember working on Middlewood asylum in Sheffied, we were turning it into 109 luxury apartments. We were working in the roof space and there was a rafter about 20 / 25 feet of the ground and I could see some words carved into the wood. I got a scaffold and climbed up to see what was carved into the beam and it said " ALL THE CHILDREN WILL DIE TONIGHT". That really freaked me out. Also one Saturday morning we went to the Middlewood site to get some materials and when we got there, there were two electricians standing on the grass outside looking up at the second floor windows, they were the only two people on site. I got out of the truck and asked them what was happening, they said they could hear footsteps on the third floor above them. They both never returned to work after that.

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

That's nothing.
I have just watched "Casablanca", where no-one says "Play it again Sam".  Cheesy
It had been "colorized" with nasty bright colours.
It said this had been done without any cooperation from the original director, writers, actors etc.
I've deleted it. Cry

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

Two things come to mind, which do freak me out rather than being particularly in-your-face scary, gross, or whatever.
1) The "death face" at the end of The Ring (US version with Naomi Watts). Don't know why, but as his chair spins around, you only see it for a split second.
2) Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Sadie Hawkins Dance episode titled "I Only Have Eyes for You", where the poltergeist is dancing and there's a slow reveal as they turn. Again, creepy. The first time I watched it, probably 13 years ago when it was on BBC Two, I wasn't expecting it so it caught me off guard. But even now, watching the DVD, it has the same effect. I suppose it was the same thing with The Ring - the element of surprise without the build-up/suspense trope. Buffy had a few creepy "monsters of the week". The "Killed by Death" episode, for example.
I agree with Glenn RE unnecessary love scenes.
I don't like faces getting mangled, eyes hanging out etc.

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

Apparently, I've read, that its the ladies who like the "fruitier" love scenes in movies and why they're included for them. It was reported that Demi Moore's clay moulding scene in "Ghost" was liked by women and disliked by men in equal proportions. I just thought it was unnecessary and should have been left on the cutting room floor.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

One film that nearly made me physically sick was the Blair Witch project, not that the content was any good but the way it was filmed......... using hand held cameras so the picture was wobbling about all over the place.
This theme was also repeated in BLACKOUT which was shown on Channel 4  9.00 last Monday, the story line was good, about  the effects of a cyber attack on Britian's national Grid but unfortunately to add realism they filmed the lot on mobile phones/camcorders with the effect the picture was all over the place, made me feel physically sick.

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

I saw the original Jaws when I was 6, back in 1982, and it put me off going anywhere near a Beach for months, for fear of Shark attacks, I didn't know back then that Shark attacks almost never happen in UK waters.
And ET: The Extra Terrestrial, I still cry at the bit where he "dies" on the operating table, even 30 years on.

For months ??...I saw Jaws when I was 7 on a friends big screen projector in his dining room and I've been paranoid about going in the water ever since.

Re: What freaks you out in films/TV?

I've never seen ET - mostly due to its reputation as kiddie pap.
Same goes for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"
Nearly all Speilberg films are rubbish.
Try a few sci-fi films:-
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Fahrenheit 451 (1966)
Westworld (1973)
Demon Seed (1977)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Thing (1982)
Brazil (1985)
Screamers (1995)
Gattaca (1997)
The Thirteenth Floor (1999)
Impostor (2001)
Paycheck (2003)
etc...
