What car colour

A colleague has just bought a new Citroen in a vile shade of yellow (almost hi-viz) she thinks its "lovely"
In my time I've had one dark blue, one dark green, one very deep red, one two tone brown leather(ette)/pale mustard, three red, one light blue, one light green and four silver cars. Together with four company cars that were all white.
Of all the colours by far the worst were the white company cars, one splash through a puddle and they looked very shabby, the worlds worst colour to keep looking reasonable. I think the silver have been those I prefer.
I've never quite seen the attraction of black. But I think in my opinion there are very few cars that don't look good dressed in British Racing Green especially if there is some gold trim and would be my colour of choice.
So, if you were in the happy position of obtaining a new car, and had the choice of any colour whether it was in the manufacturers range or not, what would you choose?

Re: What car colour

Wife has a black car - it always looks dirty.
I have a silver car (an old one !) not cleaned it in 6 months and it looks cleaner than hers and she cleaned hers a couple of weeks ago.

Re: What car colour

My Zafira is black although although the online vehicle check say it's grey. It looks black!
My first was a champagne Escort MK III, then I had a white Bluebird, a silver Montego, a green Primera, tornado grey Primera then finally a silver Primera.
The Zafira looks good but I found the Bluebird difficult to keep clean. I surprised myself when I bought the first Primera as I hate green!
I think I prefer silver or tornado grey - or a red Ferrari Cool

Re: What car colour

When I drove company cars we had a choice of colour but my managing director refused to let us have yellow. He had read they were involved in accidents more than any other colour Roll eyes

I've never had a brand new car - I've always had more important things to spend my money on. However, I don't think you can beat a nice black car for smartness - though they do take some keeping clean. Smiley

Re: What car colour

When my wife suggested that our next car should be yellow as it's the safest colour for a car, I suggested that every car apart from ours should be yellow! Cheesy

Re: What car colour

One of the staff at my daughter's school has a new mini painted in one of those special pearl paints, from one direction it looks green, from another it looks pink, what do they put on the registration document for this type of paint?  Although green and pink would both be at the bottom of my car colour preference list I really like this amazing paint job.

Some colours are memorable for all the wrong reasons.
I still remember a friends old escort. Luminous green.
It was truly vile, or should that be bile.

Re: What car colour

My first GPO van was green.
In the early 70s they decided that they were not easily seen in rural leafy areas, so a change was made to yellow. My second van was in fact green on the inside and yellow on the outside!
Great for visibility, but oh boy, did they attract the insects in the summer.  Sad
Then yet another 'corporate makeover', and everything was resprayed light grey. Corporate - yes. Visible in fog - no.  Roll eyes
Since I've retired, they're now white, which I suppose is 'relatively harmless'.
As to personal preference, my first new car in 2003 was a maroon Fiesta, followed by a Sea Grey Focus, and just today, as 'appens, a Deep Impact Blue Fiesta.
What are they thinking?  Crazy  If I was in charge of choosing car colours, I don't think I'd use the word 'impact', especially not 'deep' - wrong connotations surely?  Grin

Re: What car colour

Forgot to mention that SWMBO's favourite car colour is that mid-blue that many manufacturers have in their range, that I have variously seen listed over the years as Electric Blue or Hawaiian Blue. I think its Peugeot  that has a slightly darker version of it currently which I must admit is rather nice.

Re: What car colour

Ever since they banned solvents and water based paints seem to chip easily I always get the colour closest to the undercoat colour to hide the chips till it's touchip time.
Currently been running grey metallic for my last 3.
Let's be careful out there !

Re: What car colour

I like the metallic look but it was something like £400 extra so decided I didn't like it that much. Same with alloys - what I have look like alloys from distance anyway.

Re: What car colour

I once had a White Rover SD1.
As pictured, but without the stripes and blue lights.
Powerful motor, but a blessing in disguise, as it was the same type of car in use by the police at the time.
Travelling on motorways and dual carriageways, nothing would overtake me, and coming up behind slower cars, they would move over very quickly.
On the negative side, cars would slow down to the speed limit when they spotted you in their mirror !!
Which means I must have been going slightly faster !!
