What are the advantages of being 50 years old?

I have a friend who is about to complete his 50th year and I thought it might be amusing to initiate him into the advantages of reaching 50.
Does anyone know if there anything for which being 50 years old is a pre-requisite?

A number of friends belong to U3A.  They always have plenty of activities to keep them going:

Re: What are the advantages of being 50 years old?

I'm only a couple of months off that point myself (although it seems utterly unreal to me).
When I reached 40, I suddenly stopped giving a flying one what anyone thought about me. I'm hoping for a similar bonus this time.  Wink

Re: What are the advantages of being 50 years old?

I never felt any earth-shattering differences when I turned 50.
I could apply for Saga insurance but, having worked for them, I felt that wasn't a bonus Wink
I do firmly belive that the art of staying young is to think young and continue to mix with those younger than oneself rather than look for similar age-related activities.
I'm lucky as SWMBO is 20 years my junior and certainly helps to keep me feeling younger and maintaining activities that my peers don't do.
To me, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, whatever doesn't matter it's your attitude and zest for life that is more important. Then again, let's rekindle this thread in 8 years and see if I still feel the same  Cheesy

Re: What are the advantages of being 50 years old?

For me, the greatest age was when I turned 67 and finally got rid of my mortgage!
So if you can do that at 50, that would be great.......

Re: What are the advantages of being 50 years old?

I was 58 when my mortgage was paid off but under circumstances I would wish on no-one.
Apart from that I didn't feel any different and life went on regardless of the 'Ooooo......the big Five Oh' comments.

@Mav you're right about mixing with younger people. I do that and feel younger as a result.  it gives you a different perspective.  I also like mixing with people with a positive attitude as it makes me feel positive too.  Can't stand being around moaning minnies Wink

Re: What are the advantages of being 50 years old?

As Fred Wedlock said, you're only as old as the woman you feel.
With the coming of old age, you may one day find a suppository in one ear; at that moment, you will realise where your hearing aid is.
Remember you are unique - just like everyone else
