Welsh Male Voice Choir

No doubt there are a few Welsh Male Voice Choirs across the world but...

Would you expect to find one on a island with a population of around 63,000 people ?

Re: Welsh Male Voice Choir

Why not  ? ? ?     here is the definition of how many people are needed to make a choir.

A choir needs at least 15 people. Enough people to field all parts of the music. A more full sound is obtained with more people. In a mixed choir you can "get away" with less, but a good number for a good sound!!

Re: Welsh Male Voice Choir

It’s finding men with a good voice interested in forming a Choir and learning to sing in  a different language, except of course those who are already Welsh and know the language.

Looking at the size of that Choir the numbers are quite big considering you have only a small number who are likely to meet the requirements.

Re: Welsh Male Voice Choir

True, but then you do not have to know the language in order to sing it. Many fans at those rugby matches cannot speak Welsh for toffee, but they do know the words to their national anthem... as do I actually, but that's another story.

I doubt that all opera singers can actually speak Italian.

Capisci?   😎

As for missing something, those women certainly are if you are looking for male choir!

Re: Welsh Male Voice Choir

Look up Alejandro Jones on YouTube.  Patagonian farmer and singer who speaks Welsh and sings in Welsh.

When some rugby championship was held in Japan, the Japanese crowd had rehearsed all the national anthems, including the Welsh one, and sang along to them.

There is also at least one video on YouTube of a (non-Welsh) South African choir singing in Welsh, and the comments by Welsh speakers say that their pronunciation is spot on.
