We are second class citizens - UN Guidance - (we being the elderly like me)

Under the proposed Sustainable Development Goals, UN member states will be given targets to cut the number of deaths from diseases like cancer, stroke, diabetes and dementia by one third by 2030.
However because many are age-related illnesses people who succumb to those diseases from the age of 70 are not deemed to have died prematurely and so are not included in the target.

I think the UN's "guidance" is a jolly good thing. The UK Gov't should plan for this and then go back to the UN with an invoice to cover the cost with payment before implementation. In that way to old need not suffer.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

I don't believe this will ever be implemented in the UK for a number of reasons. 2 years ago we introduced age discrimination laws which mean patients should not be denied procedures on grounds of age. Additionally there is an ever increasing and very vocal aging population.

We the grey vote did have an effect in the last election. The politicians know our demographic turn out and vote where the young don't and we're growing!. Any party signing up to this misbegotten policy would be committing political suicide.
hmmm.... second thoughts I expect Labour to announce their support next week  Crazy

What, in the same way you ensure that an old animal dosn't suffer? Are you saying they should be'put down' for their own good?  Shocked
That would wipe out the deficit pretty quickly though.  Wink

Am I missing something? What I read from Oldjim's post was they won't report the death as premature not that they will not treat people over the age of 70.

The first sentence from Oldjim's link:
Quote
Elderly people will be treated like second-class citizens and denied medical care under new targets which give priority to saving the lives of young people

I have a sneaking regard for the Logan's Run solution but 21 is a bit too young imho.  Perhaps 81?
