Re: Watch out for those old £50 notes

I think  you can still get them changed up until October in certain banks.

Re: Watch out for those old £50 notes

There is no problem. I found some of the really old ones at home and took them to the BoE and they changed them for me Smiley

Re: Watch out for those old £50 notes

No - 30th April is when they cease to be legal tender.
I had three of the old ones last week (no I am not a builder by trade Grin).
Got shot of the last one yesterday, the woman at the supermarket wondered why the machine they had wouldn't scan it. Then realised it was the older one. She thanked me for letting her know they were about to expire and checked with her manager who was happy to accept it.
They were a bit of a PITA, good thing I checked on the Bank of England's website beforehand.

Re: Watch out for those old £50 notes

The Bank of England will ALWAYS accept old notes - you can do this by post.
See http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/Pages/about/exchanges.aspx
You can also get old coins accepted, but I cannot find a reference to this.  A couple of months ago, I got old 50p couns accepted at NatWest.

Re: Watch out for those old £50 notes

I've had £50 notes refused in shops and pubs before and not because they were going out of date but that the policy of those businesses was to accept no denomination higher than a £20 note Undecided
