Re: Wales

Don't see how they are going to enforce this when the people here themselves are ignoring the rules by travelling for one lockdown area to another - and by bus of all things just to go shopping. It's been seen and it's been noted.

Same with travel from locked down south Wales to the far west where I live which has an almost zero level of infections.

The English travelling over the border are the least of our problems.

Re: Wales

Unlikely to happen again but there was a total lockdown in Cumbria some months ago with the police stopping cars and escorting people from outside the area back to the motorway.

I cannot imagine how many businesses in Wales and other places are going to cope, in particular those who have taken bookings for guests, who is going to want to book a holiday anywhere if you have no idea if it will take place along with getting money refunded for deposits.

What a winter we are all in for !

BREAKING NEWS: Seven dinghies packed with refugees arrived on a beach at Weston-Super-Mare this morning.

Government sources said they are being returned to Wales immediately. 😂

Jumping on an older thread as I didn't see it originally. Wales is one of the 4 countries that makes up Britain, so does that mean the Welsh are banned from Wales too? 😜

If you were referring to the English, then a lot of the Welsh don't like us anyway and make it quite clear when they change from speaking English to Welsh when you walk in the door.

Seriously though, as a company involved in servicing "key" businesses machinery, it is getting very difficult to send engineers to many places now. We have to have them go armed with a letter from our company and one from the company we are going to. Our engineers have been stopped several times by the Heddlu!

Given the above it might be better to send them armed for their safety! ‌  Cheesy

Have you actually experienced that?

I've  lived in Wales on and off for forty years, travelled here before that, and now live here (and in a Welsh speaking area as it happens) and I have never ever encountered  it. It might well have happend of course as there is never any shortage of ignorant people wherever you go in this world of ours, but I supspect it has more to do with being a well worn urban myth than reality.

Some would say and I won't, but what if if they did and so what - it is their language and their country after all.

Re: Wales

Having travelled, extensively, all over Wales, over the past 30 years,. and encountering many people from all areas, I have never found any animosity towards me... an Englishman...

Whenever I have been in shops, or other places, where there people already speaking Welsh I am amazed how easy the shop assistants find it, to transfer to English, when I speak to them, and in some cases, continue to hold the welsh conversation at the same time... I do not find this "offensive" but rather interesting.

I have always found the Welsh people to be friendly, and often wish that I could have found a place to live somewhere in that Beautiful Country.  ( I did live in a village north of Dolgellau for about a year, and that was brilliant) .
