Vulcan XH558 last flight ?

This  coming Saturday 27th June 2015
The three-hour flight will start at Doncaster at 1pm and loop north over Scarborough and Carlisle before heading back over Barton Aerodrome and Woodford, and back to Doncaster.
Vulcan XH558 was built at Avro’s Woodford site, where my Dad used to work.
I have been privileged to see it fly many times over the years, many at Woodford.

When I was a young lad, my Dad, who worked at Woodford Aerodrome in Cheshire, used to take me in sometimes at Weekends.....
Used to be AVRO's, they refurbished Vulcans, Victors, Valiants and Shackletons....
There was an old Vulcan there, and I used to play in the Cockpit !!
It was very cramped, and smelly....
Memories.

It isn't - but then again you did add a question mark to the title
Otherwise there will be a lot of customers upset down here http://bournemouthair.co.uk/avro-vulcan-xh558/

Re: Vulcan XH558 last flight ?

It's actually it's last flight over it's home airfield, Woodford. This year, however, will be it's last year of flying. Embarrassed
I used to work at Woodford too, but the Vulcan was before my time. We did some work on the tanker variant of the Victor but my main work was on the Nimrod.

Re: Vulcan XH558 last flight ?

I was at the Hendon RAF museum on Monday and got to stand under the Vulcan they have on display. Compared to the other exhibits it's massive and even put the flying fortress to shame.
Let's be careful out there !

Bah all this fuss over a flying wreck. The only time they were used in action they almost missed their target.  Grin

I'll never forget as a child on the way to Biggin Hill watching a Vulcan Bomber pass over us so low you felt you could almost reach out and touch it.
Very impressive and awe-inspiring beast.

The V bomber force Valiant, Victor and Vulcan. And I understand the manufacturers were competing to supply them. Three aircraft supplied by the British aircraft industry and the companies developed them independently  Smiley

If you think the Vulcan is big, try standing next to the Short Sunderland at Duxford Cheesy  How it ever got airborne beats me.
I still have memory of seeing the Vulcan at a flying display at RAF  St. Athan back in the early 60's.  Take off with full power applied at V2 followed by a couple of circuits.  Awesome - but just a little bit on the noisy side.
