Virus emails Re: Vehicle Tax DD

Received three emails to an address not known by the DVLA with the title "Notification of Vehicle Tax DD Payment Schedule (Ref: 000000-000005-274421-001)"
Quote
Important: Confirmation of your successful

Please can you check that the details attached below, and your payment schedule are correct.

For your information, the collection will be made using this reference, and this is how your payment will be detailed on your bank statements:

• Reference: FG08OEE
Your vehicle tax will automatically renew unless you notify us of any changes. We will send a new payment schedule at the time of renewal.
Yours sincerely

Rohan Gye

There's a .doc attachment which most likely contains a virus according to DVLA.
First time I've seen these.

Easy way to spot the fakes, they say "Dear customer", they never use the addressee's name... Smiley

Re: Virus emails Re: Vehicle Tax DD

I'll vouch for that bnb.. even the local council do the same thing. I had a rather nasty run in with my local one about a vehicle a year or three back.. usual "you're going to pay a big fine, go to jail, pay another fine, go back to jail" type..
You'd think in the 21st century that the most diplomatic country on earth would be past using techniques of extortion..

Re: Virus emails Re: Vehicle Tax DD

It wouldn't surprise me if the registration was correct as the DVLA is well known for handing out details to anyone operating as a parking enforcement agency.

... DVLA is well known for handing out details to anyone operating as a parking enforcement agency.

Giving vehicle keeper detail has been the practice of the motor registration authorities for at least 40 years provided the enquirer can show he/she has a valid reason to know that address. So a Mr Joe Soap public cannot make the enquiry if someone blocks his drive, but a solicitor working on the "case" could do so. There used to be a clear list of valid reasons documented in the Codes or Manuals used by the officials. Those rules probably still exist. It is also enacted in legislation. Before the DVLA it was DVLC and prior to that it was the local Country Hall Vehicle Licensing/Registration Department who administered the process.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
