Re: Useless information - part three

I was also going to clean the seaweed from my car today!

We live around 80 miles from the coast so it must have been a very high tide last night.

Edit:- Thanks to a correction from @Mook

Re: Useless information - part three

Hoping it stays bright and at least half warm way out west today as we have all the grandchildren coming over for dinner. Making sixteen total, it's going to be so much easier if we can all eat outside.

Anybody know what day it is? 😎

Sorry, but I think you'll find that no where in the UK is any more than 76 miles from the coast. Wink

You`ll need a big black cooking pot for that lot then......

Eat outside ?.... yeah... best place for a big fire and cookpot...

There`s a nice little drive that we do... that takes us around   Bosham Creek... ( near chichester ).. the road is under about 3 feet of water at high tide... but at low tide... it leaves a fair amount of green messy seaweed on a section of it.. so when you drive across it.. it can get picked up under the car...

Car going for mot next week... so thought I`d give it a clean today...

@Mook There is a whole rant about this at https://www.theguardian.com/notesandqueries/query/0,5753,-63924,00.html

At least Derbyshire gets a mention - I have to explain to some Londoners that it actually exists as a real county!

@agedgopher

Easily done as sat navs are not mind readers.

True story of one guy heading to the coast courtesy of his and ended up in the mid west of France instead of the north. Nobody had thought to tell it there was more than one Boulogne!

I'm guessing the ferry went without them. 🤔

Interesting.....If you were in that centre spot 38 miles from each coast how high would you have to be to see both coasts ?

It falls under useless information unless you were planning to build a tower on that spot

I always use the postal code when using the sat Navi but that is no guarantee of a easy route so always better to have a good road map with you, the shortest route is often not the best route.

Re: Useless information - part three

@shutter

Already got one. 😄

Brought it over with us fom France and now use it to either burn garden waste or as an outdoor heater for these beer filled chilly evening!

As an ex military man, any idea what the base is it's sat on?

Somebody suggested it might be some sort of tank trap.

Re: Useless information - part three

@Minivanman   Yeah... could well be ... I think the germans had them made for defending the beaches and roads around them against invasion forces in France...   wouldn`t stop a modern tank though !

@gleneagles  - not as high as if you were at the centre spot 76 miles from each coast as @Mook  described.  Cheesy

Re: Useless information - part three

@Minivanman

Many years ago, pre satnavs, the firm I worked for sent a load of scaffolding to St. Ives.

Late afternoon there were lots of radio reports of horrible congestion in St Ives in Cornwall.

You guessed it, he should have been in St. Ives in Cambridgeshire, OOPS.
