Re: UK's controversial 'porn blocker' plan dropped

Not the police rather the law upon which they carry out their duties which would be under the Obscene Publications Act which at the moment seems to be playing catch up with technology and how it is being misused.

The other thought, can or should parents be looking at their childrens phones in much the same way as should they have been looking at their or even dare I say it, going into their rooms.  At what age does a child have rights to privacy. Times change and as the age gap widens the older generation do not always change with it, but we started giving ours 'space and privacy' during the late 80's and 90s and once they became teenagers.

Difficult, but more difficlut and something that puzzles me to put it mildly is how/why kids as young as six or seven have their own mobile phones!

I do recall that as far back as my school days in the early 60s we had amongst our peers what today we'd call sex pests what with pretty bad language, ridicule and more I cannot mention - the difference now is that the same happens but is sent (and recorded) as text and images.

Edit:

'At their or even dare I say it...', should read 'at their diaries or even dare I say it...'

Tapping in text at 2.30 in the morning is not always a good idea. Smiley

I have no idea how to address the problem but it is interesting to note that the word "pornography" is originally Greek, originating some two thousand years ago.

Not a lot has changed since other than the medium.

Looked it up to check (as we do) and it had a different meaning back then.

All interesting stiff (sorry, stuff) of course... and now Google has a record of my search. 😛

Words often have an interesting history, one I learned recently was the origin of "Juke", which cutting a long story short, was a name for a Brothel, which I'm sure will please the owners of some Nissan models... 🤣

I suppose the governments original intention would be that you couldn't research the history of pornography unless you were at least provably 13+?
