This means that if the UK does the Brexit thing, but retains DST, that Northern Ireland will be one hour out of sync with the Republic for 6 months of each year.

I wonder if this will cause a bit of extra chaos at the border?

It's mooted almost annually that we should have BST all year (even GMT+2 in the summer).  The Scots are against this since it gets light later there.  When Gordon Brown was PM he was asked on TV about Scotland doing what we do now, and the rest of the UK sticking to BST all year.  His reply was that it was a united kingdom and therefore the same rules had to apply to all.  Pity it isn't a united kingdom when it comes to prescription charges, social care etc.
