If you're wondering what that flapping noise is it's a flock of chickens coming home to roost.
To err is human, but to really foul things up requires an algorithm.

Re: Tottenham Riots spread across London/England

3 young men were killed by a car driven straight at them in Birmingham last night.  A person has been arrested and charged with murder.
One of the men killed was 21.  His father spoke so eloquently on TV News today about his son.  Sad.

@artmo yes so sad, he sounded a promising young man.
Just seen this
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-14478498
Quote
Rioters in Manchester and Salford have been told that they face being evicted from their council homes if they are identified on CCTV footage.
Both city councils have issued warnings that if any of their tenants or their children have been involved in violence or looting they will be "thrown out".

I'm not so sure it is the solution.

Re: Tottenham Riots spread across London/England

I'm not too sure that throwing someone out of their home is a good idea.  It just adds more problems to those that are already there.  I notice the councils don't actually say they have the power to do so anyway.  They say they will use 'whatever powers are available to them'.

Here are some of GMP's finest enforcing the law.

*round of applause
EDIT: I suppose they will now be prosecuted for attempted murder!

It's the only response these vandals understand.  I hope other forces apply similar methods to deal with them.
I wonder how long it will be before we hear from some of the usual suspects of the PC brigade complaining about Police brutality Undecided

^^ these idiots started living in the real world. When watching that video i was more concerned about the copper that gets hit by the guy on the bike (he slides off up to the top left) than any of the idiots on bikes.
Police more power? yes, Police more willing to use force? yes - less paperwork when they do to please!!

Yes, quite right, I have more concern for the Police than the vandal.
For that reason in part, I'd like to see them use knockout gas, all the vandals fall to the floor, the next thing they wake up either in a jail or with a fixed penalty notice pinned to somehwere it would hurt.

Re: Tottenham Riots spread across London/England

Sadly knockout gases are for the fiction writers. They do exist, but are risky in application as the Russian security services discovered when they used fentanyl http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_theater_hostage_crisis
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Was talking yesterday to neighbour, two doors away, who's now retired having done his 30 years with BTP. He was saying how they'd baton charged Brixton rioters, in April 1981, without any form of body armour.

It does read as if they may have been a little excessive in the amount of gas they used.
Maybe laughing gas could be used instead, that would immobilise most people too. Wink

Re: Tottenham Riots spread across London/England

Just been looking at BBC London where there are details of some of the looters arrested.
Strikes me that a few will be out of work like a teaching assistant and a postman.
Be interesting to see what penalties the Crown Courts hand down.

Not really. You either want someone unconscious or you don't. If you do you gotta do what they do in surgery - secure the tongue so they don't choke on it otherwise you're gonna have dead people on your hands and one hell of an investigation.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
