Tor Usage More than Doubles in August

[quote=DSLReports]The anonymizing Tor network has seen an unprecedented spike in traffic of late, with 100% growth in August and the highest usage on record for the project. According to the latest stats, the Tor network saw a whopping 1,200,000 users in August, up from the previous 950,000 user peak seen back in January of 2012, and the 600,000 users seen just a week earlier.

I really don't get how so many use TOR when anybody can be an exit node with free access what is passing through it. At least, that's how I understand it works.

Yeah that worries me a bit too and it's why I've never used it. How do you know that someone won't be downloading kiddy porn or terrorist stuff via your connection? - You've no way of knowing. Seems rather risky to me.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

I was going to try it just to see what it was all about.
But then I thought that by just using it maybe I will be logged as a potential whatever. As anyone entering or exiting the TOR network can undoubtedly be seen by government agencies.
So I gave it a miss.
Maybe it is very private but in using it it seemed to me your sticking your head up to get shot at.

Re: Tor Usage More than Doubles in August

I tried it years ago, but the more I read about it I came to realise that it actually isn't secure and I thought it was a deal with no value and far too much risk - a deal with the devil, as it were. It's so alluring 'hey, have privacy, oh, and be helpful and be an exit node too'. Oh yeah? No thanks.
