Too Hot for some

Temperatures here in west Wales have hit 30ºC with my greenhouse thermometer off the scale at 50ºC even with the door open. Now taken a couple of panes of glass out before my tomatoes shrivel and my peppers curl up and die - but could it be worse. Well yes it could as our next door neighbour is currently on holiday in Portugal, and planes are grounded in Phoenix, Arizona where it's to hot to fly because the heat is above operational limits.

So thank heavens for small mercies at least as we pick up some of that breeze coming in from Cardigan Bay.

Phew.Cool smiley

Re: Too Hot for some

It's been scorching in North East Scotland since the weekend. Chocolate in the cupboard barely kept shape. Cooling down now though and threats of rain and thunderstorms for tomorrow.

Re: Too Hot for some

Outside temps here in Lincolnshire have been 27 - 30 with my south west facing lounge reaching temps of 35 with windows open, curtains draw and 3 fans going.

Better today with temps of 21 and a mere 27 indoors!

Re: Too Hot for some

I think it is only a matter of time now here in UK where air conditioning becomes the standard in most homes.

It has been hotter in Bournemouth than anywhere else in the country today.

Temperatures hit the 30.5C (86.9F) mark at 2pm, the highest reading across the country, according to the Met Office.

Re: Too Hot for some

Was toasty here the past few days, today's about 20 degrees, tomorrow's set to be about 24 with potential for thunderbangers, and after that, sub-20 degree wet weather for the next fortnight... Smiley

As for air-con, just make a drawer-size block of ice in the freezer, place said block infront of a fan, instant air-conditioning... Grin

Re: Too Hot for some

Fortunate in having a house with thick stone walls so it keeps cool inside during summer. We have blinds on the south facing windows and leaving both upstairs and downstairs windows open gives us a nice breeze through the house.

It's how groundhogs do it anyway. Roll eyes

Air conditioning? Nah.

Re: Too Hot for some

this amused me http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40340360

In the week the sunshine never ends, the UK is close to matching a sizzling June run not seen in two decades.

If Wednesday's temperature tops 30C - and forecasters confidently predict it will - that will be five days in a row.

The last June that we sweltered for so long was 1995, when the heat affected us so much Robson and Jerome stayed at number one for the entire month.

Re: Too Hot for some

Been quite warm here in Lancashire but cooling down a bit tomorrow, north of Lancaster the forecast is for heavy rain.

Makes a change to be able to sit in the back garden on a sunny day with a warm breeze.

Hope we do not experience any moorland fires, quite common when we get tempatures like this, things are certainly bad in Portugal.

Re: Too Hot for some

I managed to record an 18.2 degrees c here in Sheffield today.

Having spent the day doing DIY in the garden, the lower temperature was most welcome.
