Tomorrow's World

Would you like to see it return to our TV screens ?
I would.
The BBC's flagship science and technology programme, Tomorrow’s World which came on air in 1965, and was axed in 2003, would be a fantastic way to inspire a new generation

I am a bit biased though, I used to work on Tomorrow’s World, it was great trying out all the new tech, which quite often failed during the live Transmission !

Re: Tomorrow's World

Perhaps, they should do a sequel..... 30 mins of the original programme.... and then a 30 mins mirror image type, showing how those "inventions/products/ideas" have actually turned out....

Re: Tomorrow's World

I like the idea of showing some stuff from the original early shows followed by an update on how they panned out.
I remember them showing a record deck (late 70's I think) that no longer jumped or clicked due to scratches as it had several (maybe just 3) styli which picked up a few seconds before and after the main one and combined them somehow so scratches never got heard. What ever happened to that one?
I also remember a show where fibre optics for telecommunications was demonstrated. Whatever happened to that idea?  Cool
But who could present it Undecided
Raymond Baxter was Tomorrow's World for me; an air of authority and knowledge without treating his viewers as idiots. Do we have anyone like him today?
James Burke; such enthusiasm and understanding. Anyone  remember connections?
I also liked Michael Rodd and Maggie Philbin.

Re: Tomorrow's World

I remember a near silent road drill being featured. They don't seem to have got any quieter over the years.
No point in reviving a show that lives on with affection in our memories, it would just disappoint. Look what has happened to Horizon.

Re: Tomorrow's World

yeah tomorrows world was pretty cool, much better imho than the current crop of "tech/gadget shows" which seem nothing more than yet another excuse for a love fest recently, if they don't have anything to show they should just go with skipping a week or recap stuff already seen
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Re: Tomorrow's World

Cool Do you know what they would do to a programme like this?
It will be DUMBED DOWN for generation Candy Crush and be presented by a team of preening globe trotters who make the Gadget Show's presenters seem like Nobel Laureates. Leave TW in the past where it belongs. If you want technology, retune you Baird Televisor to the Discovery Channel or Quest.
