Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

There seems to have been a few comments recently about posters constantly endorsing those of others, so just to put my own view of it 'out there' as it were.

The option is to either like or thank a post, and sometimes both are not compatable. I may thank a post out courtesy but I may not like it and the same applies conversely. Not doing does not mean I think the opposite either - so perhaps we need a thumbs down for that which may also serve to avoid some of the nasty replies we are all guilty of at times and lets be honest, some more than others.

If I agree or disagree well you know me, I'll say so!

Nothing like shaking that tree to see what monkeys fall out.  🙈🙉🙊 😀

Re: Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

I would not want a thumbs down choice. My posts would be inundated, and I think they could be a negative influence on posters with different opinions. The forum could become like the DE comments, where ISTM only rabid brexiteers dare post.

Better would be buttons for both agree and thanks,

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

@Luzern

Well there you go then and perhaps you prove my point as instead of having to type seemingly ad nauseam "rabid brexiteers" you could just give any pro brexit comment a thumbs down.

It would certainly help lower our blood pressures 😋

Re: Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

If I agree with a post then I'll "Like it"

If I disagree with a post then I'll either say so or move on.

If I want to thank a member for the post then I'll say so....

Re: Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

Indeed @Champnet but the option is to both like and thank - which are not necessarliy the same thing?

I 'like' a lot of what is written in the Bible, the Koran and the Bhagavad Gita, but I'll not 'thank' anybody for their entirety.

@Minivanman  Agreed, so should you petition for a split, a fundamental change in the etiquette of social media ? 🙂

Is there an E.U directive to assist......

Re: Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

They tried adding the Thumbs Down in digital Spy politics which led to herd instinct campaigns agains some posters whose valid comments did not match the majority.  Worth a look to see just how unpleasant people can be online.

@Luzern

OK, so no thumbs down button for you, but as well as buttons for agree and thanks, how about a third button for disagree?  😀

Re: Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

@TeeGee

Well yes, but you would get that herd instinct anyway.

My thought was that with a thumbs down a poster could just 'walk away' without leaving a nasty à la rabid brexiteer comment but of course, they could do both.

@Minivanman

I think the suggestion of a thumbs down button was made a while back and we got a resounding 'no' from the powers that be, but a thumbs down button would be quicker and probably better than this.  😉

Of which tells us more about the poster than, well just about anything. 😉

Re: Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

I would not support a thumbs down button for the reasons given by others however......

I am all for a 2 fingered button......which way the fingers might face I will leave you to decide !

Maybe we should ask Little Jack Horner he thinks. 😃

Re: Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

Well, there may be no buttons, but there are these in amongst the smilies, or emoticons, or emojis, or whatever label they're given this week:

Re: Thumbs up...or thumbs down.

That's true, we can just avoid clicking anything if we do not like the post and put one of these 💩 in with no comment. 😃
